Relationship between Evidence and Ideas

Let’s think logically! All humans die. Mr. Nakamura is a human. Therefore, Mr. Nakamura will die.

Let’s think logically! No birds have fur And no reptiles have fur. Therefore, all birds are reptiles.

Let’s think logically! She is really nice to me. I like her. Therefore, she likes me.

Let’s take a look Back to our writing.

Some Ways to Clarify Logic “___is ___,because___.” (Someone who tells the truth) is (a good friend), because (a part of friendship is being honest when it’s difficult).

Some Ways to Clarify Logic “If ___means that___, then___is___.” If (being deceptive) means that (you don’t tell someone the truth but instead go behind their) back, then (she) is (deceptive because she says she will keep a secret then tells the world).

Some Ways to Clarify Logic “Therefore,___” (Being a good cat owner takes responsibility) and (I am a good cat owner). Therefore, (I am responsible).

The children claim Margot is lying because they cannot mentally recall what the sun looks like. The similes that are used fall on deaf ears because they have no frame of reference, so they belittle Margot’s recollection of the sun as lies. This growing misunderstanding starts to become resentment, and this leads to the children locking Margot in the closet.

The similes that are used fall on deaf ears because they have no frame of reference, so they belittle Margot’s recollection of the sun as lies. If having understanding means that a person is willing to be open minded and to to see another person’s point of view then the children are certainly not trying to understand where Margot is coming from, and they misunderstand her. This growing misunderstanding starts to become resentment, and this leads to the children locking Margot in the closet.

“The unexamined life is not worth living” ― Plato

Counterargument!

“Plato says that the unexamined life is not worth living “Plato says that the unexamined life is not worth living. But what if the examined life turns out to be a clunker as well?” ― Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

WHere might we find an alternate argument or idea?

Prompts to argue counterpoints “While some might argue...they forget that in the text it states…” “Some people might interpret this to mean...But clearly...because…” “Certainly it could be said...While this is a good point...it fails to account for…”

Since Margot remembers something that the children do not, they cannot completely understand her. Furthermore, she does not participate in the school children's games: “If they tagged her and ran, she stood blinking after them and did not follow. When the class sang songs about happiness and life and games her lips barely moved” (Bradbury 2). This illustrates the growing isolation and misunderstanding between the children. They do not want to play with Margot, and she does not want to play with them which ultimately leads the children to abuse her and lead them to lock her in the closet.

When the class sang songs about happiness and life and games her lips barely moved” (Bradbury 2). This illustrates the growing isolation and misunderstanding between the children. Some people might interpret that to mean that Margot just is merely not interested in playing with the children at that moment, but clear Bradbury chooses to illustrate this behavior because he want to emphasize how atypical it is: children usually play together when included. Margot does not want to play with them which ultimately leads the children to abuse her and lead them to lock her in the closet.
