Cultures within Cultures

Subcultures A subculture is a cultural subgroup differentiated by status, ethnic background, residence, religion, or other factors that unify the group. It is a secondary group within a culture, or a smaller group within a larger group of the culture.

Countercultures A counter culture is a culture, often of young people, with values opposed to those of the established culture. It is a culture that does not necessarily follow the norms of what is considered “traditional” in society. Subcultures and countercultures often overlap in their meanings and examples.

Indigenous Cultures An indigenous culture is a culture living or occurring naturally in a specific area or environment. It is a group of people who is native to a place; or are the original inhabitants of a place.
