Opnet Simulator Project Technion - Israel Institute of Technology Computer Networks Laboratory Opnet Simulator Project Spring 2001 Project Presentation Student: Avi Yadgar Supervisor: Yoram Yihyie

Project Goals Implementation of a simulation environment for a defined protocol, using as many of the simulator’s features as possible, according to the modeling paradigm. Modification of the simulated protocol using the software’s low level features.

Project Goals, cont’ Comparative performance evaluation. Composition of a simple tutorial in Hebrew for the simulator. Composition of a step - by - step tutorial in Hebrew, on the basis of the implemented environment.

What is Opnet? A simulation and analysis software for: Applications Protocols Architecture Devices FOR MORE INFO... http://sunflower.singnet.com.sg/~meridian/

Building the test case: A network for Video - On - Demand use. Server Clients running the video Application Switch

Activity on the net: Client send requests to a Servers trough the Switches. Servers reply by sending the data streams to the Clients trough the Switches. Network is measured by: Delay between request and response. Ratio between Servers / Switches / Clients which still allows proper functionality of the application.

Enhanced Test Case: Data servers Control Servers Clients running the Application

Enhanced Test Case: Clients send “Short” requests to Control Servers. Control Servers compose and send “Long Request” to Data Servers. Data Servers reply by sending the “Large Files”. Control Servers broadcast the “Large Files” to all clients.

Implementation of Test Case: Definition of “Short Request” and “Long Request” formats. Implementation using OpNet’s packet format editor.

Implementation of Test Case: Definition of “Small File” and “Large File” formats.

Implementation of Test Case: Definition and Implementation of Data Servers Structure and operational behavior.

Implementation of Test Case: Definition and Implementation of Switch and Control Server.

Implementation of Test Case: Definition and implementation of Clients. Implementation of video application behavior.

Schedule Composition of a “Quick Start” tutorial done end of June mid of July end of July Composition of a “Quick Start” tutorial Implementation of models and basic environment Implementation of models for enhanced test case Simulations and result analysis Composition of a tutorial for both test cases For further information visit: www.technion.ac.il/~cn14s01
