TNReady Information Ocoee Middle School COLTS Considering Others while Learning Together Successfully TNReady Information October 20, 2015

TNReady Questions Compared to Previous TCAP Questions TNReady will test a deeper level of student knowledge than previous TCAP tests in Math and English/Language Arts and Social Studies. In reading and writing, students will read from texts and provide some written responses to support their answer. In math, students will solve multi-step problems, many without using a calculator, to show that they know. Social Studies will read from text(s) and complete an extended response. Similar to how teachers assess student learning in a variety of ways during the school year (e.g., writing assignments, visual projects, multiple-choice questions etc.), TNReady will give students a variety of ways to show what they know. A Parent’s Guidebook to TNReady, available on the department of education’s website at tn.gov/TNReady, shows a more in depth side-by-side comparison of TNReady and TCAP questions.

Time Spent Taking TNReady The total testing time during the 2015-16 school year will be similar to the total testing time last year. The TNReady test in math and English language arts will be given in two parts that are approximately 12 weeks apart. Students will take the first part in February/March and the second part in April/May. Part 1: Soc Studies=45min. Math=60min. ELA1 & 2=90 + 90min.(180) Part 2: Soc Studies1 & 2=45+45min.(90) Math1 & 2=45+45min.(90) ELA1 & 2=70+70min.(140)

TNReady Practice Tools TNReady practice tools are now available online for parents, students, and teachers. TNReady practice questions are available to parents online at support.micatime.com. Practice questions range from grades 3-11 in math and English language arts. You can access the site from anywhere: home, work, library etc. No log in is needed.

TNReady Practice Tools While the best preparation for TNReady will be strong instruction every day in the classroom, we know that parents and teachers need additional tools to prepare students for success. TNReady Practice Test windows: #1 Sept 28-Oct 30. #2 Jan 4-Feb 6. #3 Mar 7-Apr 8.

Scheduling TNReady Online testing for both TNReady and the new social studies assessment means districts have more flexibility than ever before to decide when students take the test. This does not mean your child will spend more time taking tests. It just means districts have more flexibility to determine the actual dates for schools to administer the test. Part 1- Window: February 8 - March 4. Part 2- Window: April 18 – May 13. SCIENCE TCAP *May 5*.

Supporting Students as They Take TNReady All students will have access to online tools to help them digest the material on the test. Layers of support will be available to every student.

TNReady Results As students and teachers rise to new expectations with the new test, we predict that first-year test scores will decline when compared to current TCAP assessments. Tennesseans have proven that students and teachers respond quickly to higher expectations and new assessments. We expect first year results from TNReady to set a new baseline to measure rapid progress in the years to come.

Redesigned Parent Reports Parent reports will be redesigned to provide more and better information about student performance on TNReady—ELA, Math, Social Studies, and the science TCAP. Redesigned reports will focus on three key things:
