Powers of the President With a partner match the powers in the word bank with the descriptions below. If you need to, you can use the blue Civics textbook to help you.

Powers of the President Veto – He or she can reject bills passed in Congress Appointment Power – He or she names the heads of executive agencies, judges of the federal court, ambassadors, and other top government officials. These appointments need Senate approval Executive Order – He or she can issue orders that allow the president to execute laws passed by Congress. These orders have the fore of a law, but do not require the approval of Congress.

Powers of the President Making Treaties – He or she can negotiate agreements about military alliances between the United States and other countries Military Powers – The president is able to take immediate steps in the defense of the nation. If troops are sent overseas Congress has 60 days to approve it. Pardoning – He or she can reduce the penalties against people convicted of federal crimes.
