Important dates He was born in 1643, 4th January (Lincolnshire, England). His book (Mathematical Principes of Natural Philosophy), first published in 1687. In 1665, he discovered the generalished binomial theorem and began to develop a mathematical theory that later became calculus. In 1666 he discovered the force or gravity. He was appointed Lucasian Professor of Mathematics in 1669. From 1670 to 1672, Newton lectured on optics. He died in 1727, 20th March.

His family He was born in a family of farmers who owned land and cattle, and were therefore quiet rich. Newton was born prematurely, so they thought he would not live long. His parents were called: mum Hannah Ayscough and dad Isaak Newton, too. Isaak Newton died 3 months before his son was born. When he was 3 years old, his mother remarried and went to live with her new husband. Isaak was only child. His mum had 3 kids with second husband.
