Study / Learning Tips

Acronyms or Acrostics Here is how to form an acronym. Write the facts you need to remember. Underline the first letter of each fact. If there is more than one word in a fact, underline the first letter of only the first word in the fact. Arrange the underlined letters to form an acronym that is a real word or a nonsense word you can pronounce. "HOMES" is an example of an acronym that is a real word you can use to remember the names of the five Great Lakes: Michigan, Erie, Superior, Ontario, Huron in music, students must remember the order of notes The notes of the treble staff are EGBDF. The common acrostic used for this are Every Good Boy Does Fine or Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge.

Rhymes/Music A rhyme is a saying that has similar terminal sounds at the end of each line. Rhymes are easier to remember because they can be stored by acoustic encoding in our brains. For example: In fourteen hundred and ninety-two Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue. Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November; All the rest have thirty-one, Save February, with twenty-eight days clear, And twenty-nine each leap year.
