Sharing of Eurostat predefined tables Software for XML tables Štěpánka Čejková

International comparison Strong need to compare national data with data from abroad Paper publications focused on international data – e.g. CESTAT/CANSTAT or special parts of CZSO publications (Statistical Yearbook, Quarterly Bulletin, Focused on Women and Men etc.) Electronic publications – e.g. EU after enlargement

„XML“ tables Sharing of tables considered as an excellent idea Possibility to make European statistics accessible in national language Starting date of pilot version: May 3, 2006 Provisional version – based on tough processing in Excel → inconvenient Creation of special software made-to-measure of XML tables

Processing procedure of new table Teamwork – 4 phases: administrator → choosing the table, specification of translator, specialist and deadlines translator (ESDS team member) → translation of title, subtitles and description relevant specialist (production unit member - PUM) → checking of translation administrator → checking → publication on website

In all phases automatic e-mails are being generated: administrator → translator translator → production unit member production unit member → administrator user administrator → server administrator Whole procedure – about 3 weeks

Czech version of Eurostat database (predefined tables) Update – once a day (20:00) according to Eurostat database according to changes effected by administrator in Czech version

Technical description Two parts: Saving Eurostat data and their translation (Czech equivalents already saved in database) Created in Java, version 1.5 Using libraries java.net → downloading data in XML format → library org.xml.sax → translating + transforming into static HTML files HTML files → stored using FTP transfer into web server directory → presentation on website (storage of data → database Oracle 10g) Serves for the actual translation of texts Created in PLSQL store procedure of Oracle 10g

Future plans Dynamic process Continual development to increase the user friendliness – both of administrators and final users of the database Corrections of published tables – in preparation Set up of new structure (main navigation tree) Search engine Incorporation of TGM Download

Thank you very much for your attention.
