Athletics Financial Information FY 2017 Groton-Dunstable Regional Schools January 23, 2018 12/28/2018

Uniform Required Purchases Track, cross country, baseball, volleyball, boys lacrosse and softball all provide the uniform top but require athletes to purchase the uniform bottoms. Baseball is also required to purchase their own hats. Other teams offer gear or clothing that is option, examples include group shoe purchasing, practice jerseys, or warmups. We plan to reiterate in contracts to coaches that all of these items are optional and are looking at a virtual athletics store where items can be purchased if they are desired that will further emphasize the optional nature of these items.

Financial Performance of Athletics Revenue: Fees: 302,686 Gate: 18,362 Donation: 59 Lost Uni: 7,741 Expenses: Salaries: -407,959 Trans: - 91,440 Other: -115,906 Net Cost to Assessment : 286,457 (46.56% of athletics total)

Fees Comparison Looking at fees from 37 school districts including Groton-Dunstable the following were observed Average: $271 High (excluding Sports with Special Assessment): $450 Low: $100 Median: $260 Mode: $200 (7) Full Data Set in Packet

Family Cap Our high school cap reduces fees collected by about 60,000 annually. The family cap at Groton-Dunstable (2,200) is by far the highest due to a cap at both middle and high school. Caps near or slightly above 1,000 are far more common. If we were to reduce our family cap to make the high school cap a true family cap at 1,200 we would be more in line. This reduction would have a minimal budget impact based on previous history.

Recommendation I recommend that we move to a true family cap for athletics fees to the high school cap to ensure that families are not paying over 1,200 per year. Assessments for ice time and ski passes will not be counted toward the cap amount.
