Categorical vs. Quantitative Data Unit 5 Day 1

Everybody, stand up!

As fast as you can, organize yourselves from tallest to shortest!

As fast as you can, organize yourselves by hair length!

As fast as you can, organize yourselves by shoe size without talking!

As fast as you can, organize yourselves by birthday (month and day) without talking!

What type of data is it? There are two kinds of data that we will look at in this class: Categorical Data and Quantitative Data

Categorical Data Categorical = Category (group) Data is organized by descriptions like color, texture, smell, taste, appearance and beauty. Data can be observed, but not measured.

Quantitative Data Quantitative = Quantity (amount or number) Data deals with numbers and can be measured. Types of this data include length, height, area, volume, weight, speed, time, cost and age.

Example: A Painting Categorical Qualitative Let’s list some qualitative and quantitative data about this painting!
