Background Nurses : Largest Work Force HCA : Hospital Corporation of America : 300+ Facilities in USA & UK Nurses : Largest Work Force Performance Problem : Discrepancy in Clinical Documentation Identified Reason : Lack of Clear Understanding of HCA Documentation Policies & Protocols HCA Organizational Goal : Standardize Clinical Documentation Electronic Documentation System : MEDITECH

What is the ultimate goal of the project? Nursing staff at HCA Gulf Coast Division will be able to accurately describe the documentation mechanics involved within Meditech system, as per HCA patient care policy. Develop an eLearning course in asynchronous, self-paced format, using interactivity, clinical scenarios, embedded quick assessments, quick reference guides and videos. Give a brief overview of the presentation. Describe the major focus of the presentation and why it is important. Introduce each of the major topics. To provide a road map for the audience, you can repeat this Overview slide throughout the presentation, highlighting the particular topic you will discuss next. Plan:

What has been accomplished in the eLearning course? 4 Lesson Modules, Video tutorials, quizzes, scenario questions and discussion forums Lesson modules cover the most crucial aspects of nursing documentation to fit within the timeframe of this semester Summative evaluation led to project plans for more such courses to address various performance issues Nursing staff at HCA gets mandatory documentation mechanics course in Healthstream (LMS) Interactivity is serving to be learner engaging The hospital leadership teams are planning to incorporate this course part of their annual competency program

Initial Course Design Vs Final Course 1.Clinical Scenario Based interactive assessment Interactive Video tutorial only Incorporated Scenario based question as assessment 2. Direct email link to HCA Corporate Clinical team room for immediate response No Link was placed as it was not permitted by HCA Corporate 3. Each Lesson module with assessments for it within that module Assessments in separate section with subfolders for each lesson 4. Final competency exam only at the end of the course Quiz for each lesson separately 5.Course to be published only in LMS Course published both in LMS and intranet as quick reference 6. Lessons to be in sequential order Lessons could be accessed in any order

What lessons have I learned? Prioritize your goals! Be on top of the TIME game – Crucial Dealing with unanticipated work/life issues! How to remain sane? Never bite more than one can chew! – I did and never again… Accept pitfalls could happen in a project in spite of all the risk management readiness. Be prepared to recognize them and learn from them.
