5.1d How Do I Get Along With Others?
Inclusive The concept of a Christian society is to be inclusive – we are called to treat one another equally. Jesus calls us to be inclusive – the opposite of hatred Being inclusive means seeing beyond surface differences and seeing our connections with all other people
Discussion: What does “being inclusive” look like? Seeing God in others Accepting others Don’t discriminate Love your neighbour Don’t leave others out Creating a warm and welcoming environment Accommodating for inequities Love one another
Think-Pair-Share Was there a time in your life when you felt left out or excluded? Was their a time in your life when you left out or excluded someone else? How does it feel to be excluded? How does it feel to be included? What can you do to foster inclusivity in our school community?
Inclusivity Leads To Peace When we hate another person, we separate ourselves entirely from that person. We focus on things that make us different and ignore things that should draw us together. Inclusivity involves seeing beyond surface differences and seeing our connection to others.
Sometimes we divide ourselves into groups: “ingroup” and “outgroup” or “us” and “them” Dividing into groups that don’t mix can lead to violence Physical, mental, or emotional torture of another shows a lack of respect for human dignity
