Presentation transcript:

Recommended Daily Allowance 8 glasses of 8 ounces every day! The more you exercise the more water you need! Sources of water in food: Vegetables – 87% Fruit – 86 % Eggs – 74% Beef – 73% Bread – 36%

Water Loss Adults lose nearly 12 cups of water per day ½ - 1 cup from the soles of our feet 2-4 cups from breathing 2 cups from perspiration 6 cups from urine

Signs of Dehydration: Headaches Backaches Depression Slow metabolism Weight gain Gallstones Bad breath Dry Mouth – last sign

Water vs. Other Beverages Caffeinated beverages stimulate the adrenal glands and act as diuretics, robbing your body of necessary water. Soft drinks contain phosphorus which can lead to depletion of bone calcium. Fruit juices contain a lot of sugar & stimulate the pancreas. Other beverages also contain dehydrating agents. They may actually reduce the water reserves in the body! Drinking other beverages to the exclusion of water also causes you to lose your taste for water.
