Prof Ann Anderson Research Areas: Aerogels Heat Transfer Fluid Mechanics
Nanotechnology - Aerogels Study the effects of chemical reagents and process variables Make non-silica based aerogels Investigate the use of aerogels as energy storage devices Make Hydrophobic Aerogels Investigate other possible application areas for aerogels WORK WITH CHEMISTS! http://eande.lbl.gov/ECS/Aerogels/images/FLOWER.JPG see lab webpage: http://cs.union.edu/~andersoa/AerogelWeb
Heat Transfer….. Fabricate a thermochromic liquid crystal based temperature sensor that uses light reflection and demonstrate its use in a real application(POSSIBLE SUMMER FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR THIS PROJECT) Investigate the phenomena of nano-scale heat transfer in aerogels.
Fluid Mechanics Design and build a flow bench to study the fluid mechanics of gas flow through aerogels (non-continuum flows) Investigate the drag reduction potential of a hydrophobic surface. Bio Fluids – Design and build a flow channel to study the effect of fluid flow on endothelial cells. Study flow over bird wings and humpback whale fins.
