Tracking your trip information and animals collected Collection Trips Tracking your trip information and animals collected This session covers the Collection Trips module. Collection Trips functionality allows you to have all the information in one place to help track your trips and what animals you collected. Designed primarily for aquarium use, Collection Trips can also be used for terrestrial trips for collecting birds and herps.

ZIMS Updates! This PowerPoint is up-to-date as of: November 12th 2018 ZIMS is developed in an “agile” method This means that it is updated every two weeks, sometimes with additional releases in between! Use the link below to see if there have been any updates to this topic since the date above: http://training.species360.org/updates/

When was it? -Start and End Dates -Animals can be recorded only during that date range You will record the start and end date of the trip. Animals can be collected only during the date range of the trip.

Who went on it? -Trip Lead -Trip Participants You can record who went on the trip. The Trip Lead will display in the Basic Information regarding the trip and you can search for trips lead by this person. You can also record other trip personnel as participants.

Where was it? -Geographic Area -Country/State/Province -Latitude/Longitude -Altitude and Depth You can record a general area of the trip such as the Gulf of Mexico or Central America. The Country and State or Province can be recorded. For very specific details of the location you can record actual Latitude and Longitude and Altitude or Depth of your collection location.

Was it legal? -Associate required Permits Any permits that you have entered into ZIMS can be associated with your Collection Trip. This allows you to make sure that it was carried out in a legal fashion.

What was used. -Vehicle. - Type. - Status. -Collection Method. -Nets What was used? -Vehicle - Type - Status -Collection Method -Nets -Traps -Scuba Information about the vehicle used is also collected. Vehicle Type is a cascading dropdown list where you can select a general type, such as Boat, or get more detailed and select a Kayak. In addition for each individual or group collected you can record the method used such as specific types of nets, traps or scuba gear.

What did you collect. -Caught and Released. -Died in Transit What did you collect? -Caught and Released -Died in Transit -Accession -Only these are accessioned For the animals collected there are three outcomes you can record. They could be caught and released or died in transit. Neither of these outcomes will result in an accession. Only if you select an outcome of Accession will a record be created and a GAN assigned. In addition, during a standard Collected From Wild accession you can associate an animal or group with a Collection Trip once it has been created. And records already created for animals collected from the wild can be edited to associate them with a specific trip if it is created after the accession.
