Your First Few Days Getting a new kitten can be very fun and exciting for the whole family. Getting a new kitten is also a lot of work and responsibility. While you and your family are getting used to your new kitten you must remember that your kitten is also getting used to you, their new environment, and their new daily routine. If you have not already done so, now would be a great time for you to come up with a special name for your new kitty. Within these first few days you will learn many things about your new kitten. Food Depending on how old your kitten is will decide what kind of food that he or she requires. Younger kittens require milk as where slightly older kittens may eat wet or dry food. There will also need to be fresh water for your kitten to drink. Depending on how old your kitten is will decide what kind of food that he or she requires. Litter Box Your new kitten will need to have a litter box as a place where it can use the bathroom. First you want to make sure it is the right size. If the litter box is too tall the kitten will not be able to get inside. This litter box will have to be cleaned and changed on a regular basis, so someone will need to know who has that job. If you are the chosen one just remember, small jobs lead to bigger jobs and more responsibility and trust. Plus you might get a chance to earn an allowance. Sleepy Time Your new kitten will need a place to sleep. Make your kitten their very own bed for them to sleep on. This can be something as simple as an old pillow or towel to a more expensive cat condo. Your new kitten may even choose to sleep with you at night, depending if your parents allow it to. Toys Your new kitten loves to play. Whether it is a toy that you bought at the store or just a plain old shoe string, ball of yarn or just an old sock, make sure it is clean though, your kitten will give you many hours of fun while playing with it. This is how your kitten will learn to socialize and get exercise. Petting and playing with your kitten will help him or her remain friendly. Your new kitten loves to play. Health Depending on where you got your kitten he or she may have already seen a vet. If he or she has not seen one or you do not know if they have, now would be wise to have them seen by a vet so he or she can remain healthy for years to come. This is important as there are many diseases that can harm your kitten. Depending on where you got your kitten he or she may have already seen a vet. Scratching From the very first day your kitten comes home there should be safe areas for him or her to claw and scratch. A good suggestion is keeping a scratching post near their litter box. If you are using a cat condo, many of those are wrapped in carpet so it is safe for them to scratch that. Whenever your kitten uses their scratching post you may want to reward them with a treat. This is so he or she knows that it is there for them to scratch on and your walls and furniture is not. Many Fun Years to Come As you watch your new kitten turn into a full grown cat there will be lots of fun times and more than likely a few times that are not so fun. Over these first few years your cat will develop who he or she is, or their personality. With the help of you and the rest of your family, your new kitten will become a special part of your family for many years.
