EQ: How Can We Measure Speed? Motion and Speed EQ: How Can We Measure Speed?

Motion: Any change in an objects’ position. Reference point: A place or object used for comparison to determine if something is moving. Speed: How fast an object changes position. The rate of motion.

4. Constant Speed: speed that does not. vary or change. 5   4. Constant Speed: speed that does not vary or change. 5. Instantaneous Speed: How fast an object is going at a particular moment in time. 6. Average Speed: The total distance traveled divided by the total time traveled.

Calculating Speed   The relationship between speed, distance, and time is shown with the following formula. S = d/t Speed = distance (m) Time (s)

This formula can be set up three ways This formula can be set up three ways. You choose which you need depending on what you’re asked to find.   1. Distance d = s x t units (m) 2. Time t = d / s units (sec) 3. Speed s = d / t units (m/s)

What information would go in each section of this triangle in order to calculate speed?

If a car travels 100 miles in 2.5 hours, what is the speed of the car? If a person is traveling at a speed of 10 m/s and they have a race that is 400 meters long, how much time will it take them to complete the race? If a person is on their bike and they are traveling at 30 km/hr and they keep this speed for 3 hours, how long did the person travel?

Look at the graphs below Look at the graphs below. Give an explanation of the motion shown on the graphs.
