Get Bitter or Get Better Hebrews 12:14-15

Hebrews 12:14-15 “Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

Colossians 3:19 “Husbands, love your wives and be not bitter against them.”

The Germination of Bitterness The “Seed” of bitterness is a hurt It may be intentional It may be unintentional It may be imagined It may be God’s chastisement The “Soil” of bitterness is a heart that holds on to the hurt and harbors hostility

The Devastation of Bitterness The “Root” is underground – that makes it easy to hide Characteristics of a Bitter Person: Very Sensitive Has little or no gratitude Will harshly criticize or vainly flatter Mood swings

The Fruit of Bitterness It will affect you physically (Heb. 12:15) It will affect you emotionally (Prov. 15:17) It will affect you spiritually (Heb. 12:14)

The Chain Reaction of Bitterness Ephesians 4:26, 30-31 Bitterness Wrath Anger Clamor Evil Speaking Malice

The Eradication of Bitterness Let God Reveal It (Ps. 139:23-24, Jer. 17:9) Let Grace Remove It (Heb. 12:15) Let Good Replace It (Heb. 12:14)
