ATT

Autism is a condition that can affect people in different ways. ATT Autism is a condition that can affect people in different ways. It is not an illness. It is no ones fault if they have it. Having autism means that your brain works differently to other people. It can’t be cured. You can’t catch it from someone.

Autism can affect 4 different areas: Emotions Communication Senses ATT How can it affect me? Autism can affect 4 different areas: Emotions Communication Senses Flexibility of Thought

Not knowing what emotion I am feeling? ATT Emotions: How can it affect me? Not knowing what emotion I am feeling? Not knowing how to get to a calm state and remain there. Not knowing other people’s emotions. Worrying about things that other people may not worry about.

Exploring different emotions through videos and role play. ATT Emotions: What can help me? Exploring different emotions through videos and role play. Trying out different ways to keep me calm. Recognising how people are feeling. Find things to use/do to help me remain calm.

Not understanding instructions given to me. ATT Communication: How can it affect me? Not understanding instructions given to me. Not being able to communicate how I feel. Not being able to interact with my friends how they want me to.

Visuals to show me what to do. Communication: What can help me? Visuals to show me what to do. Allowing me time to process instructions. Take part in groups to develop my friendship with my classmates.

Not feeling pain the same as everyone else. ATT Senses: How can it affect me? Not feeling pain the same as everyone else. Being over sensitive or under sensitive to noise. Not being able to feel my body all the time. Finding it difficult to work in rooms with lots of clutter.

Doing regular exercises. Wearing ear defenders. ATT Senses: What can help me? Doing regular exercises. Wearing ear defenders. Working in a calm and quiet room.

Flexibility of Thought How can it affect me? Becoming anxious of events. Feeling nervous when meeting new people or going to new places. Not being able to fully understand someone’s point of view. Finding it difficult to go from one activity to another.

Flexibility of Thought What can help me? Using a timetable to show my day and warning me of any changes. Give me lots of information when meeting new people, or when I go to new places Allowing me time to move to one activity to another. Allowing me to have breaks between activities.
