Reading Skill TAKING NOTES

What is it? Taking notes isn’t copying everything. Taking notes should be FAST. It should be ORGANIZED.

Making clear notes

Clear notes To make good notes, use 5-7 words per line. If you have a new idea, go DOWN. 3 causes = cancer (smoking, alcohol, sun) 3 causes = cancer smoking alcohol sun

Making FAST notes!

FAST NOTES Here are some good symbols to use:  preposition  that/who/which  increase  decrease  change ∴ therefore (so) = be/was/were Decrease in number of people who eat vegetables  ppl  eat vegetables

FAST NOTES Teach yourself short versions of common words. v. = very bc = because w/ = with ppl = people q = question # = number Left because large number -> people very sick Left bc large # -> ppl v. sick

FAST NOTES REMOVE EXTRA WORDS! articles helping verbs that aren’t important unimportant adjectives If you go to the mall, you will see many types of clothes If go -> mall, see many types -> clothes
