Making Edgar Allan Poe’s Obituary He’s just a Poe boy from a Poe family

Poe’s Original Burial Place (was moved in 1875)

Directions: Due: Tuesday, Sept 5th (No exceptions!!) You will be creating an obituary for Edgar Allan Poe based on the background video we watched in class and the articles you read and summarized. Your article summaries must be turned in the with obituary. Does not need to be in MLA, but must look like an obituary. The obituary can be neatly handwritten or typed. (5 bonus points will be given those typed.) Due: Tuesday, Sept 5th (No exceptions!!)

What is an obituary? According to dictionary.com, an obituary is “a notice of a death, especially in a newspaper, typically including a brief biography of the deceased person.”

Things you need to include in your obituary: Full name of the deceased Age at death Residence Date of birth and death Place of birth and death Survived by… (Family members who are still alive.) Preceded in death by… (Family members that died before him.) Occupation Hobbies/ Interest Achievements Information on funeral service (location/time/date) Memorial donation suggestion At least 4 sentences to tell what really happened to the person (how did they die) Picture of Poe (printed or drawn)

Obituary Continued All of the information you need was either discussed in the video we watched or found the articles you are summarizing. Be creative and think like Poe. The items in yellow on the previous slide will be made up. The last four sentences about how Poe died will be decided by you.
