Objective and scope of RN07 work in Phase 4 Objective: Specify and propose a regional standard for regular emissions and discharges from ships and offshore units in the Barents Sea, including applying the IMO MARPOL Special Area (SA) requirements. Scope of work: Based on the results from the 2009 phase 3 work prepare a proposal for issues for inclusion in the standard, and draft text for review. Tentatively the standard will cover: Regular emissions to air Regular discharges to sea Waste management MARPOL SA requirements Environmental control and monitoring The MARPOL SA proposal to be proposed to national authorities which again may present this to IMO.

Key challenges Get a common understanding of what this standard should be and how it shall be applied (i.e. reference standard vs. regulative requirements) Work scope covers many topics i.e. a wide scope which will require extensive work effort to achieve

Goals for this workshop Familiarize with and clarify scope of work Familiarize with colleague experts Identify work tasks and develop a work plan and schedule (short and long term) Identify and dedicate tasks and responsibilities
