Lesson E Communication Participants will: Understand the difference between business and personal relationships. Develop active listening skills. Practice formulating clear I messages.

Using “I” Statements When I Feel Because Would you please   I Feel Because Would you please Possible statements for scenarios: When there is water dripping into my apartment, I feel concerned because I know the damage that can be caused by faulty plumbing. Would you please send someone to fix the problem asap? When there is extra noise in the hallway when I’m trying to sleep, I feel frustrated because I need rest in order to work. Would you please work with me to determine some quiet hours that will work for both of us? When I lost got my electric bill recently, I felt surprised by the large amount due because my hours have been cut at work and I wasn’t expecting to pay so much! Would you please work with me to develop a payment plan until I can afford to pay more? When I moved in, we noted that I needed screens on my windows. I feel disappointed because this issue has not been taken care of yet and I’d like to open my windows. Would you please have the screens in the windows by next week? When we can’t trust each other, I feel disappointed because we used to be such good friends. Would you please consider having a conversation about how we can both honor our lease or problem solve together how we move forward with our situation?
