English 2 - March 21st Agenda: Set up Notebook Pick Up Books Warm-Up: Book Preview Archetypes Notes Coat of Arms Project Homework You Will Need Life of Pi Life of Pi Calendar New notebook for Life of Pi Writing Implement

Warm-Up: Book Preview Examine your copy of Life of Pi. What colors does the cover use? Why do you think they use those colors? What images are used? What are they meant to represent? How is the book organized? (parts, chapters, chapter length/formatting, etc.)

Notes: Archetypes Archetypes are symbols, patterns, images and ideas that have UNIVERSAL meaning. No matter what your culture is, nearly all humans have the same base concept.

Notes: Archetypes Around the room are posters with different ANIMALS on them. Using post-it notes, write what you think the archetypal MEANING of each animal is. Only use one word per post-it per poster. You do not have to put a post-it on every poster.

Coat of Arms Project On the back of the worksheet, choose three colors and an animal or object to represent yourself. Write what each ones symbolizes about you. On the front, draw your personal coat of arms using ONLY the symbol and colors written on the back.

Homework: Due Wednesday, 3/23 Read up to the end of Ch. 6, including Author’s Note Find 3 quotes that represent what Pi is like as an adult (Chs. 1-2). Find 3 quotes that represent what Pi is like as a child (Chs. 3-6).
