Radio Microphone (RM) Task Force Since 2007 RM have been confronted with the issues raised within Europe by the reallocation of 790-862 MHz band, previously part of the television spectrum 470-862 MHz band, to Mobile Fixed Communication Networks (MFCN) The speed of the implementation of the MFCN varies throughout Europe, but has already started e.g. in Germany and Sweden. LTE has emerged as the preferred technology for MFCN.

Radio Microphones Victims of MFCN´s Due both to MFCN’s and compacting of the TV channels below 790 MHz, large amounts of spectrum have been lost for radio microphone use.

Other Victims of MFCN´s Within Europe the 863-865 MHz band is used by radio microphones and a range of cordless audio devices; these will also be badly impacted. Annex A1 provides information on a limited number of immunity tests.

Other Victims of MFCN´s Whilst not the subject of this Task Force, many television delivery platforms and other devices such as RFID and alarms will also be impacted. Reports and results of various immunity testing can be found at: http://docbox.etsi.org/Etsi_Cenelec/PUBLIC%20FOLDER%20on%20DD/

RM Response to this Loss of Spectrum A Specialist Task Force was set up within ETSI to investigate Cognitive-PMSE (Program Making and Special Events). Annex A2 provides information on this topic. A public funded research project was initiated to transfer the results of the ETSI STF into a working demonstrator. This demonstrator will show the feasibility of the concept. Annex A3 provides information on this topic.

RM Response to this Loss of Spectrum Further to the work of the ETSI-CENELEC JWG on the Digital Dividend Interference issue, a review of receiver characteristics and immunity is taking place.

Other Issues The ETSI standard EN 300 422 covers both radio microphones and Assistive Listing Devices (ALD). In recent years ALD’s have progressed from simple FM systems mainly used within schools to sophisticated ear-to-ear devices. EN 300 422 has been revised with appropriate test methods for them. The recent published version of the standard is available in the Task Force docbox.

Next Steps / Actions To reflect the changes in the operating conditions and environment for Radio Microphones, we suggest the following changes to the radio microphone resolution as presented in Annex 4. Please consider renewing the radio microphone resolution and including the suggested changes.

Next Steps / Actions Would any of the members wishing further information or to contribute to the work of the task group please contact: Brian Copsey.(BC@copsey-comms.com) All documents and annexes are available at http://docbox.etsi.org/workshop/GSC/GRSC_WP1_radio_mics/GSC16 The docbox will be updated with information on the various subjects as it becomes available.
