CC1. Describe the structure of an atom A good answer will include:- The names and symbols of particles in an atom Examples Suitable diagrams showing where the particles are Correct symbols for subatomic particles (with charges shown as + and -) Higher Tier - The numbers of these particles (and how they can be worked out from the periodic table)

CC2. Describe and explain how electrons are arranged in atoms A good answer will refer to:- Energy levels – how many electrons can fit in each energy level? Specific examples showing the numbers of electrons in each energy level Higher Tier – use number notation to describe the electron configuration (e.g. Cl 2.8.7) and how this can be worked out from the periodic table.
