Christianity, Belief & Science Big Bang Theory Christianity, Belief & Science

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state, Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait... The Earth began to cool, The autotrophs began to drool, Neanderthals developed tools, We built a wall (we built the pyramids), Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries, That all started with the big bang!

"Since the dawn of man" is really not that long, As every galaxy was formed in less time than it takes to sing this song. A fraction of a second and the elements were made. The bipeds stood up straight, The dinosaurs all met their fate, They tried to leap but they were late And they all died (they froze their asses off) The oceans and pangea See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya Set in motion by the same big bang! It all started with the big BANG!

It's expanding ever outward but one day It will cause the stars to go the other way, Collapsing ever inward, we won't be here, it wont be hurt Our best and brightest figure that it'll make an even bigger bang! Australopithecus would really have been sick of us Debating out while here they're catching deer (we're catching viruses) Religion or astronomy, Encarta, Deuteronomy It all started with the big bang! Music and mythology, Einstein and astrology It all started with the big bang! It all started with the big BANG!

OK, there is a bit more to it than that……… Well where should I start?

Remember when you were in primary and you wrote your address like this? Penny Hoffstader 123 Oscar Road Aberdeen AB11 8HD The Earth The Solar System The Milky Way The Universe

The earth seen from Apollo

The Solar System

The Milky Way contains at least 100 billion stars

There are more than 100 billion galaxies in the universe

How Big Are We Talking?

Starting to look a bit titchy

Positively miniscule

Invisible!

OK, there is a bit more to it than that……… 13.7 Billion years ago, (that’s 13700000000) scientists tell us that out of nowhere and nothing a singularity occurred. i.e. all the matter that exists in the universe now, all squished up smaller than a single atom.

At the Singularity Time starts Space starts Matter begins to form Scientists have no idea what prompted the singularity. Some scientists say it is meaningless to talk about ‘before’ the Big Bang because if there was no time then there can be no before!

This started expanding (like a balloon being blown up) very rapidly (not exploding! There was no big bang) Rapid Expansion.

Speed of light = 299 792 458 m / s Light travels from the sun to the earth in about 8 minutes and 19 seconds. However, it takes about 10,000-170,000 years for a photon to travel from the core of the sun to the surface.

So every time you look up into the sky, you are actually looking at the past.

What started the Big Bang? Scientists don’t yet know, some would say that there must be a natural cause. Some religious people would say God. Some religious people say that the Big Bang didn’t happen at all.

Remember: Quotes get extra marks! “An expanding universe does not preclude a creator, but it does place limits on when he might have carried out his job.” • Stephen Hawking, A Brief History of Time.
