PSAT 8/9: Information for MJHS Families
Welcome Parents! What is the PSAT 8/9 and for what is it used? Test that is part of the SAT suite of assessments Scaled score shows growth toward SAT 8th grade scores are used, along with teacher recommendations, for 9th grade course placement Why does MCHS offer the PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and SAT? Mandated in Illinois SAT used as college entrance exam
Is the PSAT 8/9 mandatory and do other schools give the test? Not mandatory but recommended CJHS and TMS administer the PSAT 8/9. Is there a fee? No. MCHS pays for students to take the PSAT 8/9.
What does the test look like? PSAT Reading All Reading Test questions are multiple choice and based on passages. Some passages are paired with other passages. Informational graphics, such as tables, graphs, and charts, accompany some passages—but no math is required. Prior topic knowledge is never tested. The Reading Test is part of the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section.

How is the test scored and how will my son/daughter receive scores? 240-1440 Total score (Writing&Language + Reading) + Math STUDENTS WILL ALSO RECEIVE BENCHMARK INDICATORS FOR LEVEL OF COLLEGE READINESS Students will be able to access scores via free College Board accounts
