BDA Reading Strategies Sarah Sitzer Student: Logan, 5th grade

AR Social Studies State standard 4.3.8 Environment- Identify cause and effect relationships between population distribution and environmental issues.

Introduce the article Read synopsis aloud to Logan before starting the actual “Before” Reading strategy. Engages the reader and gets them thinking about the topic. Activates prior knowledge.

Pre-Reading Strategy “Before Reading Strategy” Anticipation Guide Narrow student’s focus on underlying themes Focus on cause and effect relationship

During Reading Strategy Coding/ Annotating the Text Break down a more difficult text Neat and organized “marking-up” a text Allows teacher insight to student’s level of understanding the text.
