The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Day Two: Reading Comprehension Strategy: Check for Understanding

What class will look like today… Mini-Lesson - notetaking Learning Target Quick Write Retell Reading Comprehension Strategy: Check For understanding

What are some ways we can… Organize notes? What is important to include when you take notes? What does not need to be included when you take notes?

Writer’s Notebook In your writer’s notebook, answer the question: “Can your best friend be more important than your family?”

Retell Another important reading comprehension strategy….

Check For Understanding Check for understanding is a reading comprehension strategy that teaches you to stop frequently and see if you are understanding what you are reading. Stop and ask yourself 2 questions-”Who is the story about?” and “What happened?” If you can easily answer the two questions, keep reading. If you cannot, you must go back and re-read.

Model Check For Understanding Read aloud of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part- Time Indian We will stop at the end of each section/page and practice the strategy with you.
