Presentation transcript:

Personal Anecdote Assignment Though we often associate narratives with fiction, the art of storytelling and the notion of a narrative arc applies as well to nonfiction. Personal memoirs, biography, history, case studies in psychology--these are just a few types of writing that fall within the narrative genre. A few weeks ago you wrote an autobiography in the third person that focused on the details of your life. Now, think of a single episode from your life that you remember vividly. When we tell short poignant stories from our experience they are called anecdotes. Write an anecdote from your life that reveals something about your biography. Sometimes thinking of a traumatic event or a triumphant moment helps. Be sure to fill your anecdote with descriptive details (think of sensory images) as well as the narrative arc of your story. Be sure to format this writing in MLA style. The length should be 250-500 words.
