Region One Football Officials Association RULE TOPICS Legal Motion & Shifts We Are All Here to Learn

Shifts: Rule 7-2-6 Rule 2-39: 1 or more A players moving to take a new position after taking a set position Moving includes player’s head, hands, feet, or body Rule 7-2-6: If A shifts, they must be completely stationary for 1 second before ball is snapped Illegal shift is live ball foul at the snap Shifts & Motion (Rule 7-2) Illegal shift and illegal motion are live ball fouls at the snap Rule 2-39 defines shift as 1 or more offensive players moving to take a new position after taking a set position Moving includes player’s head, hands, feet, or body Article 6: If A shifts, they must be completely stationary for 1 second before ball is snapped
