Word Processing – most common software outputs – (type of material produced) choose this software when you need to produce text based documents eg letters, reports, memos, display documents Purpose/function – (what it specifically does) choose this software because it allows editing, formatting, spell checking, mail merge, integrate graphics etc

Spreadsheets Excel outputs – choose this software when you need to produce number-based worksheets eg financial planning, cashflow forecasting and budget tracking Purpose/function - choose this software because it allows calculations and recalculations using formulae

Database Access outputs – choose this software when you need to produce forms, formatted reports or specific queries from large amounts of facts stored in related tables purpose/function – choose this software because you can record facts about a particular subject or related subjects
