RESPECTING SURVIVORS Be cautious about touching or picking up a person’s belongings. Survivors are often protective since they have lost so much. Ask before taking pictures Help them, if allowed, to gather things to be kept. A container to put things in is a blessing.
CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS Long pants Closed toe shoes Gloves Hats Identifying clothing or wrist band
WATCH OUT! FOR HAZARDS Power lines Heavy equipment Fires Unstable structures Tree cutting operations Ladder safety Critters Nails and other sharp objects
LIFTING SAFETY Stand close and lift with your legs Ask for assistance Back injuries can last a lifetime
HEALTH AND FIRST AID Drink plenty of liquids in warm weather Use sunscreen where appropriate Take needed rest breaks Know the signs of heat emergencies Know how to stop bleeding Call 911
ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS Fill out information/liability release Show photo ID Receive assignment Get signed release from homeowner Report out at the end of the assignment
DISASTER RELIEF OVERVIEW Use specially trained volunteers for practical ministry with a goal of spiritual ministry Workers wear yellow shirts or hats Team leaders wear blue hats Site coordinators wear white hats Volunteers come from all over the state or nation to serve
