WHAT IS A FASHION STORYBOARD? Industry-inspired method of displaying original designs Tells the story of the designers idea Include original illustrations, flats, as well as inspiration materials.

FASHION STORYBOARD

PURPOSE Create original designs based on knowledge of the elements and principles of design. Provide the opportunity to display original designs in a storyboard format as used in the fashion industry. Enhance visual communication skills. Develop knowledge of the career responsibilities of a designer and a fashion illustrator

DESIGN BRIEF June Heat - Design shirts, over blouses, crop or shell tops and easy trousers/pants/divided skirts for those unexpectedly warm June summer days Retro Fashion – Research fashion from the 1970s. Select a look from this decade and create an updated original design with modern influences – 2011 Natures 4 Elements – Fire, Water, Earth or Wind – From crashing waves to dust storms, take your cue from nature! The sky is the limit in creating a design that embodies one, or even all 2011 – 2012 Around the World - Use your fashion passport to explore people, places, culture and fashion around the world. Use what you learn about other parts of the globe to inspire your creation.

2011 FASHION STORYBOARD GUIDELINES HIGHLIGHTS A 4-H member can only enter one storyboard Fashion Storyboard must include original illustration & flats, as well as support material that have influenced the design. Mounted on 20 X 30 foam core or mat board – can be vertical or horizontal and can be any color Fashion Storyboard label must be affixed to the back of the board. Storyboard is judged without an interview. Categories – Wearable, Accessory, Jewelry, Non-Wearable and Pet Clothing Each Storyboard will be evaluated based on the 4-H Fashion Storyboard Score Sheet.

SO HOW DO I GET STARTED! Inspiration Think about people, places, culture and fashion from around the world. Research a specific country or culture. Create an original design Take an idea from your research and begin work on your original design. Take a design that you have created and add elements from the country or culture that you researched Current trends Use magazines, tv and the internet to identify current trends. Develop a them, mood or spirit What do you want your board to tell your audience Becomes the unifying force for everything on the board Layout Determines how the viewer sees and comprehends the content and idea of the theme
