Mapping Instructions & Listening Exercise Or how to create my own Private Island

Connect the dots. La la la! Connect points A-B, B-C, etc. between points D-E draw a peninsula. Create a compass in the lower left-hand corner showing the cardinal directions.

What’s its name? Using your name, create an appropriate name for your country and write it in BLOCK LETTERS on the northern edge of your map using a BLACK colored pencil.

Mountains Using a BROWN colored pencil create a mountain range on the western edge of your island. Use between 8-10 mountains to make the range.

Water, Water & more Water Create 2 rivers using a BLUE colored pencil. Both rivers’ sources must be in the mountains. The 1st river’s mouth will be at point B. The 2nd river must empty into a lake that you create between points E-F. Color this lake BLUE.

Make it colorful! Using a GREEN colored pencil create an area of plains between your 2 rivers. Near the eastern edge of your island use a YELLOW colored pencil to create a desert that spans the coast. Color your peninsula between points D-E PURPLE.

Water Features Label the following water features BLUE: 1)Name each river after a female family member. 2)Name the lake after a fish. 3)Name and label a bay after your favorite beach activity. 4)Using BLOCK LETTERS name an ocean using a synonym for large.

Land Features Label these land features using BLACK: 1)Name the mountain range after something pointy or sharp. 2)Name the plains after something flat. 3)Name your desert after a dry food. 4)Name your peninsula after something purple.

Legend Create a legend in the southeast corner of your map identifying all 5 colors and for what they were used. (Not including BLACK)
