Input ACEA Boundary Conditions

Workplan JRC Boundary Conditions, Conditioning/Temperature - First Ideas Cold Start Emissions: Difficulties of volume flow determination due to water condensation in the exhaust pipe. System calibration needs to be done inside before and after each test. Difference of sampling point (temperature levels) of LD / HD need to be investigated. High electrical energy supply (HDs using generators) need to be investigated. Instrument corrosion due to salt on the road Cold start emissions are already adressed by the NEDC test at 25°C and -7°C ACEA Proposal Outside temperature 10-30°C. Vehicle preparation (instrumentation etc.) inside. Start emission sampling at public road.

Workplan JRC Boundary Conditions, Driving Dynamics - First Ideas Combination of the working points of a PEMS or Random Cycle measurement with its frequency at normal driving. (same could be applied to engine power/engine load) 100 1,9% 2,7% 2,3% 1,1% 0,2% Drehmoment [%] 2,2% 6,8% 7,6% 2,9% 0,4% 0,1% 20% 15,1% 23,8% 10,0% 2,3% 0,5% 0,1% 500 1000 1500 2000 2500 3000 3500 4000 4500 Drehzahl [min-1]

Workplan JRC Boundary Conditions, Driving Dynamics - First Ideas xx% In case of at least one acceleration above the limitation curve the short trip (RC) or the window (PEMS) is excluded: > RC: next short trip to be selected randomly > PEMS: window regarded as invalid, xx% window estimated out of the remaining valid windows

Workplan JRC Boundary Conditions, Driving Dynamics - First Ideas General Issues Data recording of driving parameters from ECU should take place at > 1 Hz to account for tip in tip out conditions, needs to be investigated. More parameters are needed to describe driving dynamics (RPA, engine load, engine power …) Driving dynamics of LD is not comparable to HD as normal driving here covers only a very small part of the engine map while LD normal driving covers a broader range of the engine map with a big difference in the frequency of the several load conditions. Accordingly LD aftertreatment systems must be adapted to a broad range of operation conditions but cannot cover extreme conditions (engine protection, packaging, weight, etc.). RDE testing requires to stay in between the boundary conditions , RDE testing does not require to cover any range of conditions.

Workplan JRC Boundary Conditions, Road Grade Road grade must be limited in relation to a certain distance, at a round trip average road grade is always zero. Recording of altitude data by navigation systems is problematic. Criteria window acceptance in dependence of the phase low / mid / high speed? Same altitude at the start and end point of the measurement. (round trip)

High fluctuations of GPS signal, especially at low speed Workplan JRC Boundary Conditions, Road Grade Comparison of three identical PEMS routes GPS Signal Height above Sea level [m] High fluctuations of GPS signal, especially at low speed Trip length [km]

Workplan JRC Trip Construction Separation into speed ranges Introduction of a min/max average speed a the high speed phase. How to seperate e.g.low and mid speed driving if mid speed contains low speed parts? Approval of the driving route? Weighting of the emission results out of the different speed phases. This reduces the number of windows significantly as these would be classified as low/mig/high speed. Any window cntaining two parts could not be used.
