Revised Town Meeting Agenda, cont’d Innovative divertor concepts and solutions (20 min talks) Super-X Snowflake Liquid metals EU or Japan contributions?? Other solutions?? New device contribution to edge physics verification (Panel) NHTX Vulcan FDF CTF ITER Working Group: conclusions and future plans Discussion Conclusions Documentation Next steps

Next Steps in Town Meeting Planning IMMEDIATELY Contact Tony Leonard to coordinate logistics with PSI Contact EU and Japan steering committee members Obtain blessing from DOE EARLY 2010 Contact potential speakers (Jan ‘10) Create 1st draft agenda and distribute 1st announcement (Feb ’10) Finalize venue, lodging, dining plan, agenda (April ‘10)

First Wall Design and Engineering Initial analysis of innovative FW concept was performed using ASME 3Sm rules. Results show that temperature limits are met, but stress limits are exceeded at 2 MW/m2 heat flux. Next step is to analyze true stress/strain behavior, including plasticity and creep, throughout fabrication and operation (normal and off-normal events). Need design rules (failure criteria) for this case. From Physics Group: Need time-dependent and power and particle flux with spatial definition. Per management direction: maintain record of latest best estimate of maximum q” capability.

Divertor Design and Engineering Initial analysis of combination plate/finger concept was done including front and back elements Next step is to analyze true stress/strain behavior, including plasticity and creep, throughout fabrication and operation (normal and off-normal) Other tasks: Detailed analysis of steel/tungsten joint T-tube concept improvement and analysis Similar to FW Need design rules (failure criteria) for full analysis method From Physics Group: Need time-dependent and power and particle flux with spatial definition Per management direction: maintain record of latest best estimate of maximum q” capability for each concept What should we do about particle loads and erosion?

System Studies Define the four corners (PPPL) based on parametric studies Reevaluate SC coil capabilities, algorithms in code Restart systems code runs at UCSD (done) Need to coordinate code use at PPPL and UCSD (tbd) Plot & visualize data, investigate additional visualization techniques (need guidance) Prepare to add/replace/manipulate code modules, as needed Finish implementing new costing algorithms???
