Starter! Write down the equation which results when: 2 is subtracted from both sides of 2 – 2x = -4 Both sides of -2(4x – 1) = -8 are divided by -2 Both sides of 9x – 3 = -5 are multiplied by 4 4 WWK: Inverse operations – opposite operations (eg. addition and subtraction are inverse operations)

Top 3 Homework HW Quiz!

8F – Solving Equations (Part 1) I can: Use inverse operations to solve one and two-step equations. (8F)

8F – Solving Equations (Part 1) What are we trying to do when we solve equations?? How can we do this using a method that’s faster than guess, check, and improve?

Inverse Operations Addition and subtraction are inverse operations. Example 1 - What is the inverse of: - 6? + 13? x 15? ÷8? Addition and subtraction are inverse operations. Multiplication and division are inverse operations.

Example 2: One step x – 4 = 8

Example 3: One step 4x = -20

Example 4: One step

Do the inverse operation in the reverse order to PEMDAS! Example 5: 2 step - Multiplication with Subtraction 2x – 4 = 8

2 step - Multiplication with Subtraction Example 6: 2 step - Multiplication with Subtraction -8x – 4 = -20

2 step - Multiplication with Addition Example 7: 2 step - Multiplication with Addition
