Field Trip Design project Gifted resource class

What is this for? Dr. havis has decided that the 8th grade students need a field trip as a reward for great academics and great behavior. The trip must be aligned to the state standards and can only cover up to one week. Students must create a packet with pertinent (important) information for trip as well as create a website, power point, or video that gives details about the trip. This must be presented to dr. havis and she will decide what trip the 8th grade students can attend. *this is not a real event*

Field Trip Design Plan You must determine how many people can attend this trip-must include chaperones (determine the ration of teachers/students to ensure safety You must choose a country or another state for the field trip The country or state must offer the following things: important landmarks, historical facts, and other activities where students can learn and have fun (malls, amusement parks, etc) Your field trip must be aligned to the Georgia performance standards for students. All contents (if applicable) must be represented (math, science, ELA/Reading, Humanities (Social Studies). You can find the standards on the Georgia department of education website (www.gadoe.org) Dr. Manns will help you find them.

Field trip design plan continuing Must provide transportation (must find flight information , train information or bus company and figure out the pricing for each student to afford the full price of the transportation) Special note: you may have to have 2 modes of transportation Must provide hotel (must determine how much you want to spend on hotel, how many people to a room, will chaperones have their own room, what amenities do you want the hotel to provide (breakfast, dinner, tv, discounted passes to activities, etc) Must provide cost of the food-how many breakfasts, lunches, and dinners will this trip provide? Will you provide snacks?

Field Trip Design plan continuing What will be the cost for each person to visit certain landmarks, museums, amusement parks Will you include a day for rest? Cost cannot exceed over $1500 Must plan one fundraiser to help with the cost of trip-must decide what will the profits of the fundraiser go towards Must offer a t-shirt or some type of outfit for students to wear for each day of the trip and you must include how much money students should be allowed to bring for spending money

Putting it all together You will create a power point, website, video for students, parents, and teachers to buy into the trip. You will also need to create a brochure or flyer to promote the trip You will create and determine what kind of school activities will students do on this trip (ex. Writing an descriptive paragraph about one of the landmarks) You will create a packet that has all the information such as daily itinerary, flight information, hotel information, what students should pack, emergency contacts, etc. (dr. manns will provide a sample for each group to use and it will be on blog

Putting it all together part 2 Begin composing a letter to dr. Havis expressing the purpose of this trip and why it needs to be taken. We will present this after we come back from the thanksgiving break. Rubric, packet samples will be posted on my blog soon. 

Final Thoughts???? This your time to plan something that you have always wanted to experience with your classmates. Who knows…it might be something you can present in high school if not middle school…. Any questions???????
