Diapers 50 Lesson Over Easy

Disposable vs. Cloth Cloth Disposable Come with tape or Velcro strips attached to the back part of the diaper that fasten in the front. It is important that they fit snuggly, but not too tightly. If too loose it will leak. Secured with safety pins. Keep fingers b/t pin and baby’s skin when putting these on. Make sure they are locked. Add a plastic/nylon pant diaper cover for security and waterproofing. Less expensive then disposable. One child use 6000 disposable diapers, that is sent to landfills.

Diaper Changing Tips

Find a sturdy changing surface A changing table or flat surface is good, but a floor can also be used and is always handy. If using a floor make sure you have a protective pad, blanket, or something to put on the floor.

Keep a hand on the baby Bond with your baby Never turn your back when changing a baby to prevent falls. Changing a diaper is a great opportunity to touch, talk, and connect.

Be Prepared Gather diaper pail, wipes, diapers and ointments and have them within easy reach.

Use baby wipes Clean away any urine or bowel movements with a front to back movement. This will help reduce the change of infection from stools.

Clean thoroughly Cleaning thoroughly will help prevent diaper rash.

Prevent diaper rash Apply a diaper ointment to serve as a protective barrier to help with further irritation.

Be careful when changing boys Keep a fresh diaper over his penis while changing and aim the penis downward when putting on a diaper to prevent wetness from getting on his clothes.

Secure diapers properly Securing the diaper properly will prevent leaking or discomfort for the baby.
