Challenges Focus on The way the evidence is presented Locating the best evidence Understanding and critiquing the evidence Implementation within the work environment Attitudes and beliefs of others Culture / context Receptivity to change Organisational issues e.g. lack of time, support Professional relationships and seniority Educational issues Lack of / or inappropriateness of resources

A research based environment can be encouraged by Creating communities of practice Holding targeted educational events Discuss research and its application at patient /client focussed meetings

OK – I’m beginning to understand how some of the challenges of implementing EBP can be overcome!

Remember that practitioners bring together many types of knowledge in order to form a very broad evidence base for high quality care. This amalgam is called “clinical mindlines”. Gabbay and le May (2011)

And I now understand that clinically effective care combines different sorts of knowledge not just research – that had never really been clear in the literature before!
