History of Eye Glasses
Medieval (11th Century) Started to use the ‘lens’ (half sphere glass) to read and write manuscripts.
14th Century “Pince-nez” Made from quartz and set in bone, metal or leather
18th Century Spectacles were invented (had side arms or a way to hold them on face)
Some other facts Glasses were seen in some countries to show wealth and intelligence Spain, America Other countries only wore them in private and were embarrassed France
1920-1930 Men and women wore the same kind
1950’s “Glamour” glasses arrived Diamonds and wings
1980’s BIG frames!

Create a pair of “Art glasses” that express a part of who you are
Your glasses should fit your face/head
You are strongly encouraged to think beyond the “frame” (head piece, partial mask etc)
Consider making your glasses have more than one function

Material ideas to bring in Cheap glasses (dollar store?) you don’t mind breaking/altering etc. (you can easily make whatever shapes you want with wire, foil and tape!) Small objects that represent you Pictures and/or magazine cut outs of images you think represent you (possibly for a 3-D collage?)
