Fashion Through the Ages A pictorial essay on fashion trends throughout the decades Colleen Saporito and Tara Venables

The Evolution of Fashion Using Photoshop, we created images depicting the different types of fashion popular in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. We then created an image showing how the styles of the past have influenced modern fashion trends.

1960s

1960s Description background made of a retro flower design found on google images. Floor made from an image of a tile floor. I used the magnetic lasso to cut out the refrigerator, counter, and stove. After using the magnetic lasso, I pasted a sink from a different image on top of the counter. The woman in the 60s outfit was cut from another image using the magnetic lasso tool. I brightened and darkened the colors in her face and dress using the dodge and burn tools. I used the magnetic lasso to cut out a mop mole, and a mop head and blended them together using the smudge tool. The magic eraser and eraser tools were used to clean up the edges of all of the cut images.

1970s

1970s Description I got a picture of the disco dance floor off of google I then googled people from the 70s and used the magnetic lasso to crop them from their original picture and added them to the background Finally I used the magnetic lasso to crop out the disco ball and placed it on top of the picture The magic eraser and eraser tools were used to clean up the edges of all of the cut images.

1980s

1980s Description For the background I found an image of a workout room on google images Using the magnetic lasso tool I cut out red and blue yoga balls and used the copy layer tool to duplicate the blue ball. I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out one step from an image found on google, and used the copy layer tool to duplicate the step twice. I found an image of an entire workout class and used the magnetic lasso to cut out one lady. The original picture of the woman in pink cut off her feet, so I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out a sneaker and pasted it on her legs. I used the smudge tool to blend the two parts together.

1990s

1990s Description For the background, I googled a picture of a 90s style diner, and used the brush tool to fill in parts of the designs on the wall that were cut off during cutting and pasting. For this picture I used the magnetic lasso to cut out popular characters from 1990s sitcoms and pasted them in the picture. I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out a diner table and paste it in the background. Using the saturation tool, I improved the resolution of the characters to make them match to each other.

Today

Today Description For the background of this image, I found an image of a runway scene I googled 60s inspired, 70s inspired, and 80s inspired fashion and found celebrities wearing these styles of clothes. I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out the celebrities and paste them on the runway I used the brush tool, blur tool, and the clone stamp tool to fill in parts of the background that were missing because I cut out a model from the original image.
