What is an air mass. Large area of air floating above us What is an air mass? Large area of air floating above us. They bring warm/cold and wet/dry weather to your area.

Depending on if an air mass forms over an ocean or over land, it will create either wet or dry air. Depending on if an air mass forms over the north or the south, it will create either warm or cold air.

CA CP MP CT MT Continental Arctic Continental Polar Maritime Polar Symbol Names of air masses Where they form Weather they create CA Continental Arctic Over the land in the north pole AWAY from the equator Dry and extremely cold weather CP Continental Polar Over the land in the north AWAY from the equator Dry and cold weather MP Maritime Polar Over the oceans in the north AWAY from the equator Wet and cold weather CT Tropical Over the land in the south NEAR the equator Dry and warm weather MT Maritime Tropical Over the oceans in the south NEAR the equator Wet and warm weather

Why do air masses move? Global wind currents push them across the Earth, as well as the United States.
