The results of the t test comparing the means of the symptom scales between pinaverium and placebo were indicated by $P < .05 and *P < .001. The P values in the RR tables were results from comparing the percentage of patients receiving pinaverium who suffered abdominal pain, discomfort, or diarrhea with that of placebo (chi-square test).
