Observations

Leave 3-4 lines at the bottom for your summary Observations Leave 3-4 lines at the bottom for your summary 7

(Left side Question) DEFINE OBSERVATION

A true fact about an object that can’t be disputed. It’s not an opinion (good/bad) or a judgement (big/small)

Examples There are 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Skyview Middle School. The 7th grade lockers are red.

Compare and Contrast the 2 Types of Observations (Left side Question) Compare and Contrast the 2 Types of Observations

1. QUALITATIVE: Uses qualities (color, shape, etc.) Collected by Looking

2. QUANTITATIVE: Always has Numbers Collected by making measurements

TIME TO MOVE! Take a walk and make an observation. Decide if it is a QUALITATIVE or QUANTITATIVE observation.

(Left side Question) Define Inference

Using observations to arrive at a judgment or decision (You use observations to make an inference)

Compare and contrast OBSERVATION and INFERENCE (Left side Question) Compare and contrast OBSERVATION and INFERENCE

Observation vs. Inference Observation comes first Example of observation: Skyview posters have hawks on them. Example of inference: Skyview’s mascot is a hawk.

(Left side Question) Define Predict

Make a forecast of what will happen in the future based on past experience or evidence.

(Summary at the bottom) Write 2-3 sentences summarizing the notes. You must use these words: Observation, Inference and Predict.
