GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: This experiment consists of three phases GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: This experiment consists of three phases. Begin by taking out 3 sheets of paper. On the first sheet, number from 1-16. Leave the second sheet blank and on the third sheet, number from 1-8. These will serve as your answer sheets for the three phases of the experiment. When you have completed your answer sheets and are ready to begin phase one, press the SPACE BAR on your computer.

PHASE ONE INSTRUCTIONS: In the first phase, you will be presented with a series of 16 familiar words. When a word appears on the screen, you are to decide how many syllables the word has and write your answer on the answer sheet. Then click on the screen (or hit the SPACE BAR) to move to the next word. Take your time as you move through the list so that you are as accurate as possible. If you have any questions, please ask Dr. Ferguson now. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE FIRST WORD

Thank You. You have reached the end of the word list. Please quietly signal Dr. Ferguson and give him your answer sheet. Then, when you have finished reading these directions, click on the link below to view a video about memory. Be sure to use your headphones or ear buds so the audio doesn’t distract the other students. As you watch the video, please use a new sheet of paper to note anything you see in the video that is new to you…anything about memory you have not already encountered in class or in our textbook. When the video ends, return to this PowerPoint and proceed to the next screen. http://youtu.be/TausqSK9p9k

Now that you have seen the video, there is one final portion of this experiment. On the following screens you will some incomplete words, in which each blank space represents a missing letter. Your task is to identify the word and then write it down on answer sheet #3. If you have not identified the word after approximately 30 seconds, leave that one blank and move on to the next.
