Welcome to US History!

Warm Up As you come in please find the seat with your name on it. Make sure you have brought you binder for this class with you! We'll take some time today to walk through our typical procedures in this class Warm Up

Announce-ments Today – Day 1/Get to Know You Tomorrow – History of Me Friday – Can America Last? Today is "Armageddon" day. We will have every type of drill at some point through out the day. You will receive the syllabus today. Please take it home and have your parents sign it. The returned copy is your first homework and is due on the 27th. Announce-ments

Syllabus Coming around now is the Syllabus for this class. At the top of your syllabus, please write down your class's Edmodo code. You will need this to join our Edmodo page for class materials, reviews, and other updates. Please take the Syllabus home and go over it with your parents. You'll need to returned a signed copy by the 27th. Let's write that in our PJ's Syllabus

Your Binder is a key part of your "Work Skills" grade in this class. Any important handouts/notes will need to be kept in the binder. Today, you will be getting a table of contents for binder; this is where you can list what documents you have (and in what order). At the end of each unit, all these sheets (along with the table of contents) will create a "study guide" for the unit test. Binders

We're going to take a little time to play a quick ice breaker game. I will be the "Captain" and will say certain commands; you will need to follow them. If you can't you'll be eliminated and will need to sit down The commands are: Captain's Coming Website with full rules here: http://www.teampedia.net/wiki/index.php?title=Captain%27s_Coming!

Captain's Coming!: Stands at "attention" (in a salute), and don't move from this position until the I say, "At Ease!" If you laugh or break from the attention, you will be dismissed. To the ship!: Players run to the right. To the shore!: Players run to the left. Man Overboard!: You need a partner. One person drops to one knee the other stands behind them, puts a hand on their shoulder. Both scan the ocean for the overboard man Crows Nest!: Three players stand backs to each other and lock arms at the elbows to form the crows nest. Mess Table!: Four players squat in a circle like sitting at table and pretend to eat like they haven't eaten in days. Tell them to make really loud eating sounds like "YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM!" Walk the Plank!: Five people stand in a single file row hands on the shoulders of person in front of them Mermaid!: each player individually thrust out right hip, places right hand on that hip, takes left hand and makes a big exaggerated wave and yells out "howdy sailor!" Captain's Commands

Cool Down Coming around now is a handout titled "History of Me". DO NOT WRITE YOUR NAME ON THE SHEET! Please take some time to complete this tonight at home (it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes). You will need this tomorrow for our activity. Cool Down
