Sophie Murray’s Author Study Raina Telgemeier books: Drama, Smile, Sisters

Raina Telgemeier! All About……... Born: May 26, 1977 (age 40), San Francisco, CA Nationality: American Award: Eisner Award Education: School of Visual Arts Siblings: Amara Telgemeier, Will Telgemeier

The Authors Style: She always shows thoughts from other points of view She always shows setting for a new scene first She sets up the book in a comic setup She always defines setting She always describes a character throughout the story She always has characters with very different Personalitys She keeps the story’s in a more current/present time

Things similar in the books ~They all have similar characters (name, traits, ages, looks, etc.) ~They all have similar moods ~They all have problems and solutions ~They all have a conflict that comes in the way (Drama there’s school crushes, in Sisters there is annoying siblings, in Smile she chipped her tooth and was embarrassed)

Things I like about these books: ~There nice easy books to read ~They all have something similar to the last book ~They are really interesting ~They talk about everyday teenage drama ~They all have close to present dates ~They all describe details about a character throughout the story ~It talks about their troubles throughout grade school (6th-12th) ~They always have a bunch of characters in each story

Drama >>>>>>>>>>>> (next page!)

Drama Published: September 1st 2012 Summary: Drama is about a girl named Callie who loves theater, and even though she works backstage she has an ambitious, brave soul, who can become friends with pretty much anyone she meets. But when she meets a pair of twins she gets stuck in the middle of confusing school crushes, and preparing for a big new play called “Moon Over Mississippi” which she is working as set designer.

Sisters >>>>>>>>>>> (next page)

Sisters Published: August 26, 2014 Summary: Sisters is about a girl named Raina, she can’t wait to be a big sister. But once her little sister (Amara) is born, things were not as she hoped, Amara was cranky, and grouchy, and cried a lot There relationship doesn’t improve much over the years, then Raina got a little baby brother, there is something strange going on between the parents so the two sisters have to learn to get along. The author shows the relationship over the years by flashbacks while there on a road trip from San Francisco to Colorado for a family reunion.

Smile >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (NEXT PAGE!)

Smile Published: Feb. 1st 2010 Summary: Smile is about a girl named Raina. Raina just wants to be a normal 6th grader but one night she falls and severely chips her front two teeth. Along with breaking her tooth comes a LOT of drama with some not so nice “friends”, also she gets a crush on a boy and starts to get caught up on him. In Smile they go from when Raina was in 6th grade to high school.

95% You should for sure read these books My Recommendation percent... If they sound interesting to you My personal favorite out of these was: Drama!
